What are 12V MR16 LED Downlight globes?

12V MR16 LED Downlights are super energy efficient downlights designed to replace your existing energy craving halogens. MR16 LED downlights are designed with similar dimensions in comparsion to halogen downlights to allow for seamless integration into existing downlight fittings. 12V MR16 LED Downlights are up to 80% more efficient, last up to 10 times longer and can produce equivalent light in comparison to halogens. Do 12V MR16 LED Downlights produce less heat than 240V GU10 LED Downlights?

Yes 12V MR16 LED downlights produce slightly less heat than 240V GU10 LED Downlights. The reason being, 240V GU10 LED downlights contain an inbuilt power conversion circuit that converts 240V to 12V. This power conversion circuit produces some but negligible heat. In the case of 12V MR16 LED downlights, the power conversion is done external to the LED by using a LED driver / transformer.

Do 12V MR16 LED Downlights use less power than 240V GU10 LED Downlights?

No they don't. The only difference between a 12V MR16 and GU10 240V setup is that a 12V setup uses an external power supply whereas a GU10 downlight contains an inbuilt power supply. Both 12V and 240V LED downlight setups will consume very similar amounts of power.

Are 12V MR16 LED Downlights brighter than 240V GU10 LED Downlights?

No, a 10W 12V MR16 LED Downlight and a 10W 240V GU10 LED Downlight of the same brand will produce the exact same amount of light.

Which electronic transformers are suitable for 12V MR16 LED Downlights?

The most compatible electronic transformers for running our 12V MR16 LED downlights are Radium BlueMaxx and the  Osram Redback 60Va electronic transformer. These transformer does not cause any issues when used with the Philips and Osram LED downlights. It is also capable of dimming both the Philips and Osram LED downlights with most types of dimmers.
